Season 1, Episode 9
How a Natural Disaster Catalyzed a Movement to Save Lives
Howard Schiffer is not your ordinary founder. His journey started in a unique place at a time when midwifery was not an accepted practice. He was passionate about providing care to mothers, and through this process, learned about the importance of maternal nutrition. When a natural disaster hit California, Howard Schiffer answered the call. What he didn’t know was that this disaster would shape the trajectory of his career, and that this pivotal moment would catalyze a movement to save lives around the world.
On this episode, we talk to Howard about the work Vitamin Angels is doing to provide nutrition to those who need it most and how you can get involved.
A Movement to Save Lives
“Vitamin Angels came in and said, well wait, we have resources that we could start to use to address the problem and to really address it where it needs the most help. And, because we were a small organization… we could make decisions quickly and get the resources to where they could have the biggest impact.”
